Ustadz Ahmad Fanani, MA : Prospering Society by Allocating Fund of Zakat and Waqf
Ustadz Ahmad Fanani, MA., has started to study for his doctoral degree in University of Brunei Darussalam last year. After failure for applying in Malaysia, he tried relentlessly. With his parents' blessing and high enthusiasm, finally, he successfully obtained full scholarship.
Studying in Islamic Civilisation and Contemporary Issues, he focuses on management of zakat and waqf for fostering education. The interest in the issue has begun since he was a bachelor in Muamalah major, University of Darussalam, Pondok Modern Darussalam Gontor. Afterwards, he continued to study in Shariah and Law Faculty, Islamic University of Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA), Brunei Darussalam, for his master degree.
The alumni of Pondok Modern Gontor revealed that the great motivation to explore this major is his personal experience in financial problems when he was student. The unsettling experience has triggered him to try hard perpetually.
"In islamic civilisation, management of zakat and waqf has become a strong basis to prospere society therefore financial problems would not be a barrier for education"
Unfortunately, literacy about the significance of zakat and waqf management in Indonesia is extremely low. Although there are some programs related with zakat and waqf management, it still needs more to notice its prominence. The dualism of the regulators, additionally, of zakat and waqf management has effected the trust of society.
"People should know that zakat and waqf could be a balancer of muamalat toward Allah SWT and human" he said.
At least, there are 18 scientific writings and 5 research journals published by the man coming from Surabaya. He has spoken in some seminars of national and international levels. Last year, in August, he became a speaker in Seminar on Aqeedah and Contemporary Thought, Seri Begawan Religious Teacher University College, Brunei Darussalam. Months later, in the end of the year, he spoke in International Seminar on Islamic Economics in Darussalam Gontor University.
Furthermore, the man of 35 years old told that all of his experience has taught him much, mainly about the interaction with new people. One of the memorable experience was when he took a part in team of Economy and Management Faculty in University of Darussalam Gontor. Formulating curriculum and proposal, he certainly has had a chance to read more books.
"I learn much to understand some charasteristics of people and the importance of work ethic. No fatigue when all done for Allah," he says.
He applied those experience in Tazkia as a teacher. Heterogenous environment has become a challenge for him. However, as part of Tazkia International Affairs units, he admitted that modern management concept has been its own charm.
Lastly, he hopes Tazkia remains to be educational institution with boarding school basis to provide excellent education for its students.
"I would like to share my experience when back to Indonesia, especially for students and staffs of Tazkia IIBS" he hopes sincerely.
