Thursina IIBS Enhances Quran Teaching Through Ummi Certification for Musrif and Musrifah

Thursina International Islamic Boarding School (IIBS) continued to enhance the competence and credibility of its Quran teachers through an Ummi method certification and upgrading program. Held on July 11 to 13, this program was organized alongside the Al-Quran education and training institution,  Ummi Foundation.

Ustazah Dian Azmi Setoningsih, M.Pd., the coordinator of Human Capital Development at Thursina IIBS, noted that Quran teachers at Thursina came from diverse educational backgrounds, resulting in varying standards in their Tahfidz Quran teaching methods. To address this, the certification program aims to enhance and standardize the quality of Tahfidz teaching, ensuring a more uniform and effective approach. This certification initiative was also previously carried out in 2018.

“For teachers who have already been certified, this program aims to upgrade and review their understanding of the implemented Ummi method,” she revealed.

A total of 57 murabbi and murabbiyah participated in this certification program, held at the Thursina IIBS female campus. This program began a few months ago in May and June of 2023. The initial assessment included a placement test to determine eligibility for certification. Participants who met the qualifications can proceed to the certification stage, while those who did not must attend a competency standardization workshop.

“After completing the standardization workshop, they must take another exam, so Alhamdulillah, everyone can take the certification,” added Ustadzah Dian. Meanwhile, the skill upgrading program brought together 21 participants including tahfidz teachers, murabbi, murabbiyyah, and 3 student alumni currently completing the Quran teaching service program.

During the certification, participants also attended lectures on the Ummi Methodology Volumes 1 to 6, Quran Teaching Methodology, Quran Ghorib Methodology, and Quran Teaching Administration. Following these lectures, these participants took part in a tahsih exam and a microteaching practice. “Alhamdulillah, all the musrif and musrifah who participated in the Ummi certification have passed, they have been certified. This means they have credibility or have been declared competent to teach the Qur'an using the Ummi method," explained Ustadzah Dian.

Thursina IIBS have previously signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ummi Foundation on the implementation and quality assurance of the Ummi method. Moving forward, there will be monthly supervision sessions for all teachers to assess the quality and implementation of the Ummi method. Additionally, a coaching clinic program will be organized to facilitate future upgrading initiatives.

With the Ummi certification, Thursina IIBS aims to become an exemplary institution for teaching the Quran to its students. “Tahfidz teachers and Murabbi/Murabbiyah who have completed this certification are expected to serve as role models in teaching the Quran with sincerity, patience, and exemplary behavior, fostering a Qurani generation,” she concluded.
