Improving Student Recitation Quality, Tazkia IIBS Holds Itqan

Tazkia International Islamic Boarding School (IIBS) has launched Itqan program for students to enhance the quality of recitation in order to memorise fluently. The program has been held since the beginning of 2020/2021 school year for all Tazkia students, both males and females.

Itqan is a program which students will recite 3-5 juz of the Quran at once in front of the mustami', people who listen, consisting of the coach or supervisor, friends from a group of tahfidz, and senior of hafidz / ah in Tazkia, as well as parents of students.  When reciting, students are not allowed to make mistakes more than ten times, both  for recitation and verse error.

The coordinator of Tahfidz of Tazkia program, Ustadz Abdul Aziz, Lc, stated that this program is the way to measure the fluency of student recitation.  Previously, there was no definite benchmark, even though students tend to memorise easily. They were only tested once a semester and it was limited to a mere two juz.  Through this program, they can be examined more thoroughly even up to 30 juz.

"Murajaah or recalling for 3-5 juz is really hard, especially when the culture has not been established yet. Itqan would manage students to get used into it as 3 to 5 juz long," he said.

Preceding Itqan, there are several processes students should pass. First, they should recall juz that will be pronounced in Itqan to their supervisor or coach.  If it is considered smooth, the students will continue to tashih to predetermined supervisor.  When it is considered good and ready, then the students will carry out Itqan in front of the listeners.

Ustadz Aziz added that every student, who has at least memorised three juz in order, is invited to participate in this program.  If during Itqan, it turns out that the student has made an error that exceeds the provisions, they could repeat Itqan or murajaah to the supervisor for juz which is rough.  When it is considered smooth according to Itqan's provisions, he/she is able to return to Itqan for the following juz.

"So far, the students have been good in Itqan.  The mistakes made on average are less than five times each," he said. Although sometimes students are still nervous and unfamiliar, the enthusiasm of the students to join this program is increasing.  Numerous students have registered to join Itqan, thus he needs to arrange the schedule properly.

"Hopefully all students are able to join this program. It is supposed to complete 10 juz at once, therefore students could murajaah the whole juz within three meetings. Good quality of recitation and reading could be accounted before Allah SWT," he hopes.
