Thursina IIBS Students Triumph Gold Medal and Special Award in The 3rd Indonesia International IoT Olympiad (I3O), 2024
Students of Thursina International Islamic Boarding School (IIBS) successfully secured gold and silver medals in the 3rd Indonesia International IoT Olympiad (I3O), 2024, held in Diponegoro University, Semarang, in the end of last June, 30/07.
The gold medal was brought by a team of high school students of grade XI, including Rayyan Billal Abdillah, Alif Cryptovan Sinaga, Atha Haidar Naufal, Hibaturahman Althaf, and Farrel Naufal Pramono. Their innovative research entitled "CoGarden: AI-Powered Long-Range Plant Monitoring for Sustainable Agriculture in Indonesia". It focuses on developing a plant monitoring system using sensors to collect variable data such as humidity, temperature, and soil pH.
The data is transmitted to the database via IoT technology for further evaluation and sent to the user's device in couple ways, via application or direct message. The CoGarden system has a range of up to 5 kilometers and is capable of sending data every 1 minute. In addition, the system is equipped with voice assistant integration such as Siri or Google Assistant, allowing automation and optimization of the monitoring process as well as reducing need for manual labor.
The second outstanding achievement is the success of high school student team from the 8th grade of junior high school, gaining a silver medal and special award for the development of the Interactive Stairs with Piezoelectric for Renewable Energy (INSTAPI) project. It functions the use of interactive stairs with piezoelectric to produce renewable electrical energy. The research was developed by Farik Wirata Vemil, Abyan Motivano Zoenarto, Adhis Alvaro Savaraz, Keanu Mikaili and Raihan Ahmad Pradipta.
Through the research, they wish for contributing on the transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy. “Our interactive stairs not only promote environmental sustainability but also foster a healthy lifestyle,” said Farik, one of the team members. By embracing renewable energy sources and environmentally friendly practices, INSTAPI offers promising opportunities as a solution for sustainable future.
