Thursina IIBS Students Involve in AYMUN Malaysia 2024, to Gain International Experience

Students of Thursina International Islamic Boarding School (IIBS) have proudly achieved in the Asia Youth International Model United Nations (AYIMUN), 2024. Took place in Berjaya Hotel Time Square, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on 2 to 5 August 2024, it was a simulation of the United Nations (UN) session attended by youth from multinational countries.

Guided by Ustadzah Reika Azil Aryani, S.Psi., M.A., Thursina IIBS students are involved in councils, including UNICEF, UNESCO, UNHCR, and Interpol. They represent countries such as Zimbabwe, Lebanon, Nigeria, Cambodia, South Africa, Qatar, Norway, Romania, Sri Lanka, Timor-Leste, and Sri Lanka. The students, who represent  Thursina IIBS, are Ananda Adzkia Nursyifa, Alya Syahida Amanina, Bilqis Salsabila Ramadhani, Dhini Nurkumala Shofianty, Fitriana Rahma Putri, Fitrizad Nadzara 'Azwa, Nasywa Raya Helmia Putri, Sabrina Alystia Rahmadhanie, Thalita Raishanazia Marsid, Tiara Inas Iswanto, and Nadia Salsabela.

In her interview, Ustadzah Reika told that AYIMUN was attended by young people ranging from junior high school age to a maximum of 25 years old, conducting UN session simulation to introduce them to the dynamics of international diplomacy, and developing skills such as public speaking and negotiation. "The event provides an extraordinary opportunity for participants to practice debating and formulating global policies, as well as building valuable international relations," she added.

They learn about policies and issues related to the countries represented, also actively engage in discussions on crucial topics such as educational technology, international peace and security, human rights, social and economic welfare, children's nutrition, immigration and labor issues. They tried to formulate balanced policies by discussing with colleagues from different countries in each council.

Furthermore, the participants learned about the process of democratic voting and decision-making, which is an integral part of the UN simulation. They, in addition, enjoyed cultural performances by other participants and visited famous icons in Kuala Lumpur, enriching cultural dimension to their experience.

Hopefully, involvement of the students in the event would contribute them globally  through the idea and innovation learned, upgrade public speaking skills, and broaden their insights on global issues. The hands-on experience alike is supposed to encourage them learning perpetually and getting involved in the later worldwide activities, while allow other students to benefit from these valuable opportunities.
