Successful in the 2024 Jujitsu Open Tournament, Thursina Students Secure 3 Medals
The Thursina IIBS delegation has demonstrated extraordinary prowess in the 2024 Jujitsu Open Tournament in Mojokerto, recording a historic stage in their journey.
In the senior category, Ust. Prasetyono Herdianto, S.Pd, emerged as a bright star, triumphing in gold medal. Meanwhile, in the junior class, the team achieved a noteworthy position, namely Darrel Rafif Brisadi Agung and Ezar Dega Auffa, who gained success in Silver Medal in their respective weight categories, under 60kg and above 70kg. Another group, M. Rafie Sultan and M. Arsya Sakha Nugroho showed commendable performance, winning bronze medal for under 55kg and under 70kg divisions, each.
Ustadz Prasetyo, as the companion said, the training for the tournament took persistently, from the end of January to the end of February 2024, a month before the champion. The training regimen includes technical training at school during the whole weeks, plus muscle strengthening training in the gym for the last ten days before the competition.
The tournament, organized by the PBJI (Indonesian Jiu-Jitsu Executive Board) branch in Mojokerto, had enggaged great number of participants for around 300, from cadets to students and the general public. It showed the broad appeal and competitive energy for the match.
“In addition, diet adjustments were made, focusing on managing body weight by reducing consumption of fried foods and sweet drinks. "This is to support their performance in the competition," he explained.
Jiu-Jitsu tournaments consisted of three categories: Performance, Fighting, and Newaza System, in which the latter had attracted many participants due to its emphasis on floor fighting techniques. Despite nervousness, the participants gradually gained confidence after their first match. However, endurance proved to be the main challenge, causing fatigue in the end of the match. Also, a long waiting time amidst the busy atmosphere in the tournament venue was highly demanding.
