Thursina IIBS Students Introduce Traditional Games and Environmental Awareness to Younger Generation through AKISA

Thursina International Islamic Boarding School (IIBS) hosted the annual Anak Kreatif Indonesia Bisa (AKISA), a program meant to give the students experience in organizing event based projects involving elementary school students. The program was held on November 30 at two elementary schools in Malang.

Ustadz Muhammad Miftah, S. Bns., head of the entrepreneur specialization track at Thursina IIBS, stated that the program aims to cultivate social compassion among students while also fulfilling their final project requirements.

“This program, held outside the Thursina campus, is part of our initiative to foster creativity, openness, and social compassion in our students. Additionally, it was also to encourage them to inspire the younger generation,” he explained.

According to Ustadz Miftah, these students were trained from the beginning of the semester to prepare for the event. They were involved in every aspect, from developing the program concept and assembling a team to handling all the technical preparations. This approach allowed them to systematically apply the knowledge they gained in class to a real project.

“Because it involved so many elements, students can directly practice their management skills including communication, budgeting, leadership, and problem solving; all of them essential traits for those interested to work as an entrepreneur,” added Ustadz Miftah.

The male students had the opportunity to kick off their program first at the Madrasah Ibtidaiyah (MI) Roudlotut Tholibin Tegalwaru. With the theme of 90’s Nostalgia, the students organized traditional games like gobak sodor, skipping, knucklebones, bakiak race, and spinning tops; introducing them to their younger peers.

The program demonstrated the students' commitment to preserving traditional games that were nearly extinct in this digital era by introducing them to the younger generation.

On this occasion, Thursina students also encouraged their younger peers to take a moment to remember our Nation’s heroes who bravely fought for Indonesia’s independence through arts and crafts activities such as coloring and creating heroes themed wall magazines.

Meanwhile, the female students organized their program at MI Sunan Giri Malang under the theme of ‘Creativity, Boundless as the Sea.’ Their agendas were aimed at educating the elementary school students about the importance of environmental awareness, particularly regarding the increasingly polluted oceans. The Thursina students planned a variety of fun activities such as waste sorting relay race, aquarium decorating, and story telling sessions.

“Through this program, we hope the students of Thursina will develop resilience, adapt to challenges, apply their knowledge effectively, and inspire others,” concluded Ustadz Miftah.
