Thursina IIBS Hosts Quran and Language Festival to Inspire Students

Thursina International Islamic Boarding School (IIBS) hosted the 2024 Quran and Language Festival from February 12 to 16. Organized by the Thursina Students Association (TSA), the festival provided a platform for students to showcase their talents through a variety of competitions and performances..

Ustadz Hendika Wicaksana, S.Pd., advisor of the Thursina TSA, emphasized the importance of improving and developing students’' Quranic and language skills, particularly in Arabic and English. This aims to ensure that students of Thursina IIBS grow into well-rounded individuals with a global perspective. “Without a proper platform to showcase their skills, there’s a possibility that they may fade,” explained Ustadz Hendika.

Ustadz Hendika highlighted that the festival is meant to facilitate the development of the four linguistic skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. This is done through competitions such as vlog making, nasheed, speech, storytelling, newscasting, drama, singing, spelling bee, calligraphy, chants and attributes, scavenger hunt, and quizzes. Prior to participating in these exciting events, students thoroughly planned, trained, and prepared their best performances.

“Through direct participation, students can learn the art of collaboration, creativity, and innovation,” added Ustadz Hendika.

The festival ran for three days and was open to students from grades 7 to 11. In addition to enhancing language skills and abilities, the festival was also expected to be a way for students from all levels and strengthen their camaraderie.

Thursina IIBS’s head of educational affairs, Ustadz M. Rajab, M.Pd.I, praised the festival as an effort to boost students' creativity and confidence. He urged students to continue learning and mastering the English language as an international mode of communication while also deepening their knowledge of Arabic as a means to study Islam thoroughly. “As people of faith, learning Arabic is just as important,” he concluded.
