Passed ! Thursina IIBS Teacher : Speaker in the Training Course on Earth and Space Science (ESS), 2024
Physics teacher of Thursina International Islamic Boarding School (IIBS), Ustadz Helmii Pakas, M.Pd was selected to be one of the participants in the Training Course on Earth and Space Science (EES), 2024. It was held to enrich learning activities related to earth and space sciences.
Southeast Asian Minister of Education Organization (SEAMEO), Regional Center for Quality Improvement for Teacher and Education Personnel (QITEP) in Science, SEAMEO QITEP in Science (SEAQIS) is presenting a Course and traning on Earth and Space Science 2024 (ESS) for a week, from 4 to 10 August 2024. Situated at Aryaduta Hotel, Bandung City 40115, it was attended by 30 teachers and education staff throughout Southeast Asia.
As the participant, Ustadz Helmi Pakas, M.Pd, the Chair of Professional Department and CEO, furthermore, had the opportunity to be one of the speakers. "All praise be to Allah, I was chosen among 30 lucky people to the event, and had great chance to talk about Path Interactive Simulation," explained Ustadz Helmi.
During 6 days, the agenda was divided into sessions, including pre-test, lecture, implementation, observation, post-test, action plan, as well as cultural exchange and sharing. On the 4th day, Wednesday, August 7, 2024, he took his turn to talk about digital learning media in earth and space topic.
“My speech was about STEM learning, especially the use of Educational Technology. I shared many with teachers from ASEAN countries about PhET, which could accomodate science learning, especially physics, chemistry, biology, mathematics, and Earth and Space Science," he added.
PhET (Physics Education Technology) is an interactive simulation to support learning and teaching for several subjects, such as physics, chemistry, biology, mathematics and earth. It was founded by the Nobel Champion, Carl Wieman, in 2002, and the simulation was created by the University of Colorado Boulder. Some scholars and experts regarding the topics attended and shared their knowledge and experience, including Dr. Elly Herliani, MPhil, Prof. Dr. Ida Kaniawati from UPI, Prof. Dr. Irwan Meilano from FITB ITB, Dr. Judhistira Aria Utama Msi from Physics UPI, Prof. Dr. Satria Bijaksana from FTTM ITB, and Putra Asga Elevri, S.Si., M.Si, from the Directorate of Secondary Education and Special Education Teachers of Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture.
