Nurturing Future Leaders, Thursina IIBS Hosts Inspiring Talk with CEO of SNS Auto Group

In an effort to nurture the spirits of leadership as professional entrepreneurs in its students, Thursina IIBS hosted an Inspiring Talk program with Bayu Surya Pamugar Sugeng, who is the CEO of SNS Auto Group as well as a business speaker and coach consultant.

Attended by 11th grade students, the talk show was held on August 31. On this occasion, Baru emphasized to the students that experience is the best teacher that has taught him many things. That’s why, as students, it is essential for them to keep expanding their horizons through reading many books. From books, one can learn other people's experiences and learn from them. According to Bayu, we don’t necessarily need to have an experience to learn from them, reading then becomes a very efficient way to gain so many lessons. Other than that, we can also learn by directly working with others more experienced than us.

“Learning from your own mistakes contributes to personal maturity. However, learning from the mistakes of others makes you wiser, as it allows you to gain insights from a variety of perspectives,” he stressed.

This alumnus of IPM International Business School's Masters in Business Administration program also shared his life story with the students. He began his business enterprise by selling flip-flops while he was still in university. Early in his career, he worked as a helper, though his proactive and innovative approach to every opportunity led him to advance through various roles, including marketing executive, area sales manager, and marketing director, before he ultimately succeeded establishing his own company.

He highlighted that success is made up of three formulas; attitude, knowledge and skills. According to him, our actions today will decide our future, hence why high school and college are a very crucial time to continue learning, improving skills, and building networks. "A leader is someone who knows the way, walks the way, and shows the way. And each of us is a leader," he noted.

He took students through a step-by-step journey to turn their dreams into reality. According to Bayu, a dream that is written down can evolve into a goal. We then need to break down this goal into steps and plans. When supported by concrete actions, a plan will ultimately help make our dream a reality. "Don't just dream. but determine when's  the time to start. Write it down into a plan, take action, and success will come to you," he explained.

Finally, he urged the students—whether they choose to pursue professional careers or start their own businesses—to clarify their intentions. He emphasized that knowledge is the foundation of everything and anything, and its true purpose is to inspire charity and goodwill. He reminded them not to let their focus on acquiring knowledge prevent from actually doing something with it for others. "Therefore, think about giving, not receiving," he concluded, quoting the Hadith narrated by Ahmad: "The best of people is the one who is most beneficial to others."

Taking place at the Thursina Islamic Conference Hall (TICH), the talk was also attended by the faculty members of Thursina IIBS. This agenda also provided the students with the opportunity to start a dialogue. Meanwhile, A. Ali Syihabuddin, M.Pd hoped that the students utilize this opportunity as best as they can to gain knowledge and insights.  "Of course, the knowledge you’ve gained in this lecture is related to Mr. Bayu's experience, so use this opportunity to learn from professionals, ask what Mr. Bayu has experienced," he urged.
