Four Thursina IIBS Students Secures Indonesian Education Scholarship to Study Abroad

A joyful news came from the fourth graduating class of Thursina International Islamic Boarding School (IIBS). These alumni; Aqila Faiza Putri Fiskiawan, Trigo Mahesa Prawira, Fadlurrahman Naufal, and Syifa Rahma Tsabita, have been given the opportunity to continue their studies at renowned universities abroad through the Indonesian Education Scholarship (BPI).

The BPI scholarship is a government initiative aimed to assist Indonesian youth in pursuing higher education abroad. According to Ustadz Mohammad Suhaili, S.Pd., Manager of Overseas Study Enrollment at Thursina IIBS, this marks the second year that alumni from Thursina IIBS have successfully made it through the highly competitive BPI application process. In the first year, one Thursina IIBS alum was awarded the scholarship. It is worth noting that all Thursina IIBS alumni who received the scholarship have also been accepted into prestigious universities all over the world.

“The scholarship covers living costs, airfare for departure and return after graduation, as well as allowances for books, research, international seminars, and housing,” explained Ustadz Suhaili.

Aqila Faiza Putri Fiskiawan has been accepted into Monash University in Australia to study psychology. Similarly, Syifa Rahma Tsabita has been admitted to the Computing and Data Science program at the University of Western Australia. Meanwhile, Trigo Mahesa Prawira and Fadlurrahman Naufal will both continue their studies at the University of British Columbia in Canada, majoring in accounting and applied science, respectively.

Ustadz Suhaili noted that applying for this scholarship had not been an easy feat. There were a number of preparations that must be made, especially to meet the language proficiency requirement through the International English Language Testing System (IELTS). Then, these alumni had to map their target universities based on the compatibility of its admission timeline with the BPI scholarship application schedule, thereby increasing their chances of receiving the scholarship. Once they determined which universities and programs to apply for, these alumni participated in essay writing training and interview preparation to strengthen their scholarship applications.

“Once they pass, they will participate in a series of administrative briefings and socialization activities," added Ustadz Suhaili.

This achievement marked a proud moment for the entire Thursina IIBS family and academic faculties who have supported these students through their education journeys. These remarkable accomplishments are expected to inspire other students to dream big and reach for the stars. Through this coveted opportunity, these alumni have the chance to develop their knowledge and potential, to hopefully bring positive change for their community and their nation.

“We hope that more Thursina IIBS students will receive scholarships for study abroad in the future, so we can develop an output profile that aligns with our vision and mission of fostering internationally minded students,” he concluded.

Last year, Thursina IIBS alum Rafida Hanun Khairunnisa Wiyono was awarded the IBS scholarship and is scheduled to depart to Toronto, Canada for her studies in August 2023.
