Thursina IIBS Masjid Youth Distributes Food Packages in Celebration of Ramadan
The holy month of Ramadan is the best time to improve on the quality of our faith and worship through various good deeds. On this blessed occasion, students of Thursina International Islamic Boarding School (IIBS) took the initiative to distribute takjil and basic food package to orphanages and communities around the school on March 29.
In the end, students managed to distribute a total of 449 packages; 218 of them were given out to people driving and walking past the male campus of Thursina IIBS, while 213 were given to the Taqwa Al Qolbi Orphanage and Muhammadiyah Ulil Abshar Boys Orphanage at Mulyoagung.
Bima Syabibi, one of the students taking part in this initiative, expressed his joy over being able to contribute directly to his community by distributing the food packages. “This also to implementat the ‘caring’ part of the RECODING values that we understand as students,” he noted.
In this program, Bima worked alongside 33 other students to distribute aid packages to the community. During their visit to the orphanages, the students engaged in da’wah by organizing activities such as playing Islamic games, delivering sermons, hosting community iftars, and conducting maghrib prayers.
“We didn’t just share gifts; we also organized engaging activities to spread joy and express our gratitude during our visits to the orphanages. Through these activities, we witnessed many smiling faces,” he added.
Ustadz Agus Setiawan, M.Pd., advisor of the Thursina Masjid Youth, emphasized that this program is an initiative by student members of the organization, aimed at fostering compassion for others through good deeds during Ramadan. "In addition to serving as a means of preaching in this holy month, these activities also help nurture students' awareness of their environment and communities," he explained.
According to Ustadz Agus, this initiative would not have been possible without the positive synergy among teachers, students, parents, as well as members of community who generously supported it through their donations. As a result, they raised a total of Rp 11,225,000, which was distributed to the community in the form of food packages over the course of a week during Ramadan. “Alhamdulillah, both students and community members are very enthusiastic to learn from this,” he said.
Ultimately, Ustadz Agus hopes that this initiative will continue and bring positive change for the communities surrounding Thursina IIBS. "Moving forward, I hope students will develop a compassionate character, and that this initiative will not stop at just our organization but will be replicated by others in Thursina," he concluded.
