Thursina IIBS Senior Class Undergoes Khidmah Program, Fosters Compassion and Practical Skills

As an effort to internalize and embody the value of care that is always instilled, Thursina International Islamic Boarding School (IIBS) continues to prepare its alumni to develop a strong sense of responsibility, compassion, and teamwork skills. This initiative is implemented through a khidmah (service) program for 12th-grade students, engaging them in various units and services at Thursina IIBS.

Ustadz Syaikhul Islam, S.Pd.I., head of the Ulama Cadre Creation Program at Thursina IIBS, explained that the khidmah initiative is part of a mandatory program for senior students at Thursina IIBS aimed at providing them with an experience in implementing the knowledge they’ve learned. Additionally, the program is also meant to train students to serve their teachers and the Islamic boarding school community. “This program gives students the opportunity to learn through real-life experience and to make useful contributions in the education and social environment,” he noted.

According to Ustadz Syaikhul, during the month-long duration of the program students will be assigned to 12 different units and services within the Thursina IIBS environment. They will work as assistants in various roles, including tahfidz assistant, front office assistant, kitchen assistant, library assistant, teacher assistant, school culture assistant, health worker assistant, mosque caretaker assistant, laundry assistant, international office assistant, and database unit assistant, as well as in several business units at Thursina IIBS.

During work days, students will conduct services in each of their assigned units for 6 hours. “After completing the program, students will be given a certificate of appreciation for their contribution and dedication in carrying out their duties in various units," he added.

Ustadz Syaiku hoped that this program would give students the chance to apply what they’ve learned, gain valuable experience, and cultivate their sense of servitude towards their teacher. “Hopefully, this program will greatly contribute to the development of students' knowledge and character while equipping them with the skills and attitudes of devotion needed to face future challenges,” he added.

One student who worked as a front office assistant, Radja Aidil Gimnastiar, expressed his joy and gratitude over participating in this khidmah program. According to him, he gained many valuable lessons during the program. "I gained many practical skills such as effective communication, welcoming guests, and knowledge about public relations and teamwork. This added to my new experience and can benefit me when studying business management later," he concluded.
