Thursina IIBS Host Orientation Week 10.7, Emphasizes RECODING Values
Thursina International Islamic Boarding School (IIBS) recently kicked off the academic year of 2023/2024 through a series of orientation activities. Orientation for parents of new students took place on July, 20, 22, and 23. Meanwhile, new students will have their Orientation Week (O-week) on July 24-30, held simultaneously on both the female and male campus of Thursina IIBS.
Upon being dropped off by their parents and family, students immediately got ready for the 7 day-long orientation period. In his opening address, Ustadz Rois Haqiqi, M.Pd., principal of Thursina IIBS, revealed the series of newly improved programs that the students will soon participate in, including O-week and language matriculation program.
Themed ‘Being a RECODING GENERATION’, this year O-week serves as a starting point for students to prepare themselves before they start school. The theme highlights the hope that these new Thursina students will internalize the RECODING values.
“Religious, Caring, Open Minded, and Leading. These are the values that we strive to echo to our students as well as the entire faculty of Thursina. By sounding this to our new students, we hope they would understand and be more familiar with these values,” explained Ustadz Rois.
After completing a week-long orientation period, new students will participate in a matriculation program for language preparation. During the matriculation period, students will receive basic lessons on Arabic, English, maths, school culture, and study skills.
This matriculation period is meant to prepare students so they will be ready to study in the classrooms, which use Arabic and English as a language of instruction. Students will also receive tips and tricks on how to adapt to life in boarding school effectively and efficiently.
“What’s different about this year's matriculation is that we will adjust the Arabic and English lessons to their skill levels. Hence, they will receive the lesson that suits their needs,” he added. “They will also participate in various activities that require them to use Arabic and English.”
According to Ustadz Rois, once the matriculation concluded, new students will assimilate into the usual routine of other students ,including taking part in enrichment programs, clubs and organizations, overseas programs, and even competitions. Moving forward, students are expected to maximize their potential to grow as individuals that can bring positive change for their communities.
