Deepening Al Quran, Students of Tazkia IIBS Continue to Study in Al Azhar University, Cairo

As one of the oldest universities in the world, Al Azhar University becomes a destination for those interested to learn deeply about Islam, especially Al Quran. Two alumni of the first graduate of senior school of Tazkia International Islamic Boarding School (IIBS), Aftina Zakiyya Wafda and Aqidatul Izzha Rahayu, decided to study in Al Azhar for maintaining their memorising of the Quran.

During preparation, Wafda admitted, it was challenging, however, she tried hard by independent learning and asking to Tazkia teachers. When announced that she passed in Tafsir department, she was proud and pleased with the result.

"Many support me to study in Egypt, so I would not disappoint them. This is a good chance for me to learn about Quran more deeply, I will make it as good as possible," she says.

Besides learning about Quran, the first daughter of three siblings would study about dakwah. For her, fine and interesting delivery is required to reach wider audience. Primarily, by way of delivery that is more flexible so that it does not give the public a rigid impression. She realises that it needs a hard work.

"My father often reminds me that someone's kindness or unkindness does not depend on his school, but on his attitude and persistence to learn," she told.

Another student, Aqidatul Izzha Rahayu, called Sasa, from Balikpapan, acknowledged that Al Azhar is not her destined university initially. However, encouragement from others has convinced her to choose Tafsir major in Al Azhar university therefore she is able to learn it from the experts.

"I would like to memorise Quran persistently and join halaqah to smooth my reading of the Quran, besides studying in the classroom," she says.

After officially accepted,  Sasa and other new students should have language training. Meeting with new friends with better arabic language skill made her feel inferior, yet she tried to focus on and think positively.

"I start to adapt and change my learning style. When it comes to difficult materials, I seek to remain optimistic and do my tasks confidently," she told.

Both Wafda and Sasa revealed that they would deliver Al Quran science to public through formal or non-formal education institutions and Islamic studies. They, furthermore, hope to share knowledge by teaching in Tazkia.

"Hopefully, by our knowledge, we could support Tazkia to be better in the future," said Wafda.
