World Mathematics Invitational: Thursina IIBS Students Brought Home 4 Medals and 4 Merit Awards

Students of Thursina International Islamic Boarding School (IIBS) accomplished a great feat at the 2024 World Mathematics Invitational (WMI) competition. Held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, these students greatly triumphed at the international competition, bringing home 4 bronze medals and 4 Merit Point awards.

Muhammad Azzam Fahim As Shiddiq from 8th grade, Humam Ammar from 9th grade, Chalisah Kanita from 10th grade, and Khalilul Fathir Munandar from 11th grade all successfully won bronze medals in their respective categories.

Meanwhile, Kayla Azzahra Putri Kamila, M Azhar Athallah Ar-Rasyid, and Keyza Elita, from 7th and 8th grades, along with Hazhiyah Khansa Alifah from 10th grade all managed to secure the Merit Point awards. These students competed against hundreds of participants from various countries, advancing from the preliminary round to the final round. Their achievements contribute to the list of impressive accomplishments by Thursina IIBS students in this international event.

“Alhamdulillah, I’m so happy I’ve made an achievement at this international event, this motivates me to continue to practice and study to participate in next year's WMI and other competitions,” exclaimed Hazhiyah Khansa Alifah.

This 11th-grade student still felt like she had a long way to go and would continue to hone her mathematics skills, hoping she would get the opportunity to compete in other prestigious competitions. “I want to compete in WMI again, also in other international competitions, as well as focusing more on my research,” she noted.

Ustadz Salman Sakif, M.Pd., advisor and coach for the international mathematics olympiad at Thursina, emphasized that these remarkable achievements not only make the school and other students proud, but also serve as a reminder of Thursina IIBS's commitment to education, to nurture generations of young Rabbanis, inspired by figures like Ibnu Sina and Al-Khawarizmi, who embody the spirit of the Quran while excelling academically, particularly in mathematics and science.

“Hopefully this success will continue to motivate other students to continue to develop their potential in various competitions in the future,” he concluded.
