Learning Cultural Diplomacy, Thursina IIBS Female Students Depart for AYIMUN in Thailand
Proud news, as many as 26 Thursina students attended the Asia Youth International Model United Nations Aspiring Youth Model United Nations (AYIMUN) forum in Thailand. AYIMUN is a simulation of the United Nations (UN) session attended by young people from various Asian countries. The goal is to develop diplomacy skills, public speaking, critical thinking, and broaden the global horizons of the younger generation. AYIMUN creates a space for young people to discuss world issues professionally and provide solutions. The students departed from Juanda Airport and transited in Singapore, before arriving in Bangkok (2/5).
Ustadzah Zahra Zakiyah, S.Pd., a supervisor for Thursina team and Co. Discipline and Behavior, Thursina International Islamic Boarding School (IIBS) said that the event was held in Rama Gardens Hotel, Bangkok. Upon arrival, all participants involved in many activities, opening ceremony, committee session, outing to tourist destinations, closing and award nominations. "The group of female students of Thursina was planned to perform Sundanese folk songs," she said.

They have prepared themselves preceeding the event with English training (especially debate and diplomacy), learning about the UN system, research on the country represented, public speaking training, and simulation of the Model United Nations (MUN) session. Also, learning on morals and character, reflecting the values of students in international forums. "The representatives have adequate skills in English, global insight, and good attitudes. We consider mental readiness and commitment as well, in preparation trainings," added Ustadzah Zahra.
In fact, they learn to face real challenges as they are trained to adapt to the international court format and use active English speaking. They also develop self-confidence since besides memorizing and understanding the concept of discussion, they learn to deliver their ideas in public confidently. They had been through intensive guidance, mentoring, and learning environment that supports and promotes them to compete in wider stage eagerly.

Ustadzah Zahra said, AYIMUN as international forum is a chance to strengthen the values of students in terms of leadership, integrity, public speaking, teamwork, tolerance, and the spirit of peace. In addition, the identity of students with noble character and Islamic values becomes the highlight. "It would be a provision for them as future leaders, either in their home country or abroad," she said.
AYIMUN is not a mere an intellectual event, but also a means of character building. The participation of students is a strategic step to show that the young generation of Islam is capable to dialogue, collaborate, and resolve worldwide problems. Support from all parties is significant to run the learning process smoothly. "Hopefully, participation on the international stage will inspire others, while promoting Islamic education in the global world," she concluded. (sls/lil)
