Highlighting the Topic of Vaccines and Biodegradability, Thursina IIBS Students Brought Home Two Trophies on Video Maker Competition

7 Thursina International Islamic Boarden School (IIBS) students achieved a remarkable feat at the 2023 Biotechnology Video Maker Competition. Organized by the student association (HMPS) of Genome Biotechlogy major at State University of Malang (UM), the competition took place on October 2023.

The first group, which consisted of Alyssa Aulia Putri, Kelsa Athaillah, and Neysa Zahra, won first place. Meanwhile, the second group, which consisted of Medina Sefira, Kayla Azzahra, Mayra Rachmadiani Pramasaya, Chalisah Kanita, secured the second place.

The students filmed creative videos around the theme of Bring Biotechnology into Innovation in the Future. The first group’s work were focused on the topic of vaccines, while the second group centered their work on biodegradibility.

With the decision to pick vaccines as an area to focus on, Alyssa Aulia Putri, Kelsa Athaillah, and Neysa Zahra gave a thorough explanation of the history, the kinds, and the effect of vaccines on the body. “To me, the video is not just a creative work. It is also serves to educate our society, especially Thursina IIBS students,” revealed Alyssa.

Highlighting the topic of biodegrability, Medina Sefira, Kayla Azzahra, Mayra Rachmadiani Pramasaya, Chalisah Kanita tackled the environmental issue of oil spill incidents and their devastating impact on marine ecosystem. Through their work, they proposed a solution that could dissolve the oil in water. “It is so that the oil can be biodegraded into the sea ecosystem without causing too much damage,” explained Medina.

All of these students are part of the same enrichment activity group in Thursina IIBS, namely the biotechnology enrichment program. Their participation in this competition is a clear evidence of the dedication and capability of Thursina IIBS students in exploring and developing knowledge in the field of biotechnology.
