Accelerating Students in Public Speaking, Thursina IIBS Earns the 1st Place in the National Speech Competition

Thursina International Islamic Boarding School (IIBS) has made another achievement in the National Speech Competition, held on September 14 2024 in the Hasanuddin Islamic Institute (IAIH) Pare, Kediri. With careful preparation and intense training, a female student succeeded in earning the first place; she is Warda Olievia Nafisa.

Ustadzah Nurul Fadhila, S.Pd., or called Ustadzah Dhila, as Murabbiyah of IIBS Thursina in female Campus, explained the journey she had gone through before the achievement. Information regarding the competition was received on about August 29-30 2024, remaining couple weeks to prepare. "Following the news, I immediately selected and called students to be trained. The preparation took approximately two weeks. They had to memorize the text of the speech, practice intonation, gestures and expressions,"she said.

Even though the training is short, Thursina IIBS fully supported its students. The school provides special space and time for practice, especially in the evenings and certain times. "We carry out routine practice in the evening and some special hours, therefore students could boost their skill in speech," she added.

Thursina IIBS delegated two female students, namely Aathifah Fiedelya Yustiawan from class 10 and Warda Olievia Nafisa from class 11. They had a series of intensive training before competing on the national stage. The biggest challenge, stated Ustadzah Dhila, was maintaining their focus when appearing in front of the audience and juries.

"Our speech opened with a rhyme. The entire audience and jury cheered when they answered the rhyme. However, our students had to remain focus on their speech. This was a challenge for them," she explained.

Thanks to intensive training and support from all parties, including teachers, as well as the parents, the challenge was successfully won. Warda Olievia Nafisa came out as the first winner, making Thursina IIBS and her family proud. "All praise be to Allah, Warda gained the top. This is the result of hard work and enthusiastic support from friends, teachers, school and parents. The achievement has showed that hard work will not betray the results," said Ustadzah Dhila proudly.

Thursina IIBS is persistently committed to encourage self-development in various fields, including public speaking skills. Hopefully, the attainment would inspire others to excel and lead the school to be  more prestigious nationally and internationally.

Among many thriumphs, Thursina IIBS constantly spurs its students in academic as well as in public speaking skills, which will be required eventually. (rnw/lil)
