Raising Environmental Anxiety Issues, Thursina IIBS Students Thriumph Gold Medal in INNOVERSE 2024

The Kanata Team, five students of grade 12 in Thursina International Islamic Boarding School (IIBS), including Ananda Naaila Qurrotu Aini, Tanisha Lubena Muti, Aisyah Alfiyyata Nasywa, Khansa Aqila Idris, and Nilna Muna Al Ghofir have won a gold medal in the prestigious Invention event & Innovation Expo, INNOVERSE 2024. This international competition was held online by WIIPA Middle East Regional Office, USA. Ananda Naaila Qurrotu Aini, Tanisha Lubena Muti, and Nilna Muna Al Ghofir as team representatives, explained thoroughly about their accomplishment.

The competition started on July 27, 2024, with the requirement of short video submission about project explanation. It was followed by Letter of Acceptance (LoA) from the committee indicating that the team had passed to the next stage. On August 16 2024, they presented their projects through Zoom meeting, considering it was online-based. The assessment was carried out by two international judges, looking thoroughly to the innovation presented.

Ananda Tanisha described, their project focuses on the field of social science, psychological research regarding environmental anxiety or eco-anxiety. It is a psychological condition involving worry about environmental damage and climate change. The Kanata team chose the theme because eco-anxiety is rarely discussed in Indonesia and it needs to gain more awareness. Furthermore, for practical solution, they created a tool; a journal called "Kanata Journal".

“The journal contains detailed information on how to detect and treat eco-anxiety. It is designed to help individuals, especially students on our age, manage anxiety related to environmental issues. "We hope Kanata Journal could become a valuable reference for other students in the future," said Ananda Tanisha.

Tanisha added that the experience of participating in the competition was valuable and enjoyable. They had wonderful opportunity to interact with participants from all over the world, Thailand, Vietnam, the United States and other countries.

The support provided by Thursina IIBS is greatly meaningful for the team. They received guidance and support from Ustadzah Risa, who helped sharpens their ideas, finds references, and obtains the necessary permits.

"As a team leader of the Kanata Team, I would like to express how siginificant the support we obtained from Thursina IIBS during our journey to victory in the INNOVERSE Invention & Innovation Expo 2024. Our success in achieving the gold medal was not only due to our efforts and dedication as a team, but also to the generous support from Thursina IIBS," added Naaila.

By securing the best medal, the Kanata Team not only made the name of Thursina IIBS proud, but also made a significant contribution in increasing global awareness about eco-anxiety. The achievement is the result of determination, perseverence and innovation in creating feasible solutions to environmental problems. The gold medal is a symbol of their success in presenting new ideas with positive impact on society. (rnw/lil)
