Thursina IIBS Students Triumphed at Mini Soccer and Badminton Competitions
The academic field is not the only area that Thursina International Islamic Boarding School (IIBS) students excelled at. Recently, male students from Thursina IIBS striked a brilliant victory at a mini soccer and badminton competition at the Al-Hikmah Junior Sport Competition in Surabaya.
On this occasion, Muhammad Nazam Taqiyudin, Farras Azaria Ramadhan Muchdor, Sakti Hutama Kusuma Hadi, Muhammad Rica Ainun Najib, Kavien Aulia Ikram, Muhammad Gathfan Al Musyafa Suryanto, Askarullah Zuhri Al Qassam, Dani Fadlurrahman Sudarjanto Putra, Jefri Kurniawan, Nabiel Hattyrizqie, Mabrur Sabili, and Muhammad Naveed Ajyad successfully came out as the first winner of the mini soccer competition.
In badminton, Ahmad Wafiq Albariiq and Aqilla Firdaus Aulia secured the third runner-up position in the men’s doubles category.
It was a very exciting game that ended with a dramatic victory for the Thursina IIBS mini soccer team. According to Ustadz Munahar, who accompanied the students, the Thursina team initially fell behind 2-0 in the first half. Undeterred, they regrouped and played with meticulous coordination in the second half, ultimately leveling the score to 2-2 by the end of the match.
“The tie led the referee to call for a penalty shootout to break the tie and determine a winner,” explained Ustadz Munahar.
Even after the penalty shootout, the score remained tied at 3-3. Ustadz Munahar noted that in soccer, when scores are tied after a shootout, the winner is decided by a coin toss. Each team chooses a side of the coin, and the toss determines which team can choose to kick or defend in the final penalty kick.
“Alhamdulillah, with God’s permission, Thursina won the coin toss and decided to be the kicker to determine the winner,” said Ustadz Munahar.
The final kick was delivered by Nabiel Hattyrizqie who successfully scored a goal, leading the Thursina IIBS team to victory, placing first place in the competition.
Ustadz Munahar emphasized that after each of Thursina’s competition, a thorough evaluation was conducted to identify mistakes and prevent their recurrence in the future. “InshaAllah, moving forward, we will continue to focus on accommodating students' abilities in this area,” he concluded.
