Thursina IIBS Holds Final Specialization Project Assessments, Cultivates Students’ Soft Skills
As the tail end of the 2022/2024 academic year rolled in, Thursina International Islamic Boarding School (IIBS) hosted the final specialization pathway assessment for 11th grade students. This assessment served as a way to evaluate student’s achievement on applying the knowledge they’ve gained during the entirety of the semester.
According to Ustadzah Ratu Fatimah, M.Si., coordinator of the Specialization Department, assessments are conducted across all five specialization pathways: Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Moslem Scholar, Sciencepreneur, Entrepreneur, and Professional Program. Each pathway has assigned a final project tailored to its specialty, complete with specific marking criteria. In the CEO pathway, students are assigned a two-week internship at a company or institution. Moslem Scholars undertake a final project that involves a literature review of preaching methods. The Sciencepreneur pathway requires students to conduct experimental research, while those in the Entrepreneur pathway are tasked with developing a business plan. Lastly, students in the Professional pathway must carry out research on social behavior for their final project.
“The technical execution has been carried out by students for an entire semester, starting from the idea generation process, idea presentation, implementation, and evaluation,” explained Ustadzah Ratu.
Furthermore, Ustadzah Ratu noted that each specialization pathway has its own tailored marking criteria. In general, students are required to present their projects to a panel of assessors from their respective specialization pathways. Students are then assessed based on their verbal and written communication skills, as well as their critical thinking, application of the scientific method, time management, and depth of understanding of the material.
“In this assessment, students present their projects according to their specialization pathway. Then the teachers would give their inputs and guidance as well as an analysis of the projects that have been presented,” she added.
In addition to presenting their projects to their advising teachers, students are also evaluated by external examiners from reputable companies and institutions such as 24 Slides, Centrale Gelato, Kampung Course, Kedai Ramah Djiwa, and the Ar-Rahmah educational institution. These external examiners assess students in the CEO, Entrepreneur, and Moslem Scholar pathways.
The projects designed by the students are not solely meant for the final assessment; those with potential will be submitted for competitions. “This year, we submitted three team projects from the sciencepreneur and professional pathways to the Indonesian Student Research Olympiad (OPSI), organized by Puspernas. Additionally, one group from the Entrepreneur pathway won an international competition with their project,” revealed Ustadzah Ratu.
Through this assessment, students are expected to develop the ability to analyze their projects thoroughly and meticulously. “The implementation of these projects is part of our effort to cultivate a critical mindset in our students, as well as to enhance their communication, creativity, collaboration, and soft skills. Ultimately, this will prepare students for their future education,” she concluded.
