Learning Manners and Encouraging Enthusiasm, Thursina IIBS Students Follow Reorientation of Rules After Eid Holiday 1446 H
The new spirit radiated in Thursina International Islamic Boarding School (IIBS), precisely at Mosque of male campus, on tuesday, when students attended the 2nd Meeting of Rule Reorientation. It became a significant momentum to rekindle the eager of learning, discipline and character building following Eid holiday of 1446 H (15/04).
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Ustaz Nur Abidin, M.Ed delivered a speech regarding the power of basic character building, such as neat rows, orderly sitting posture, focus and solemnity (sincerity). Those characters, combined with full of respect for teachers, and discipline have been a culture in developed countries; Singapore, Australia, and even Japan.
"This kind of moral teaching actually comes from the tradition of Islamic scholars, but starting to be abandoned by Muslims themselves. Meanwhile, Western nations have adopted and maintained these values, thus they are able to develop and advance into a superpower country," he said. Furthermore, he, Flinders University alumnus, conveyed powerful reflections on how someone would become a caliph or professional in the future. He promoted to learn from Singapore, which used to be a poor country, had no natural resources, and was once colonized by England. The great vision of its founding father, Lee Kuan Yew, has succeded to rise Singapore to be developed country.
He quoted Tony Blair statement as well, the former British Prime Minister, the success of Singapore rests on three main principles. The first point is the spirit of mastering English as a global language. Secondly, every one must compete to become a skilled and intelligent person. Lastly, being a compassionate people by raising awareness to avoid bad deeds or taking away the rights of others. To conclude, he emphasized that intellectual capacity alone is not enough, it has to be complemented by moral virtues and manners.
"The spirit has been implemented in our Ma'had. Everything has been designed and developed to equip you, however it depends on your commitment and sincerity to learn," he explained.
Furthermore, Senior Advisor of Thursina IIBS, Ir. Sentot E. Parijatno, M.T highlighted the importance of being wise in today's era of open information. It must be demonstrated by a commitment to only accept and filter valuable details since not all of it is useful or needed. The skill to sort out positive and relevant data is a necesssary part of character building.
"Technology is such an extension of the eyes, ears, and heart, what we see, hear, and feel can now be accessed through a screen. Full awareness and self-control are required to not be caught up in the flow of destructive information," he stressed.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of Thursina Islamic Foundation, Ustaz Dr. M. Ali Wahyudi, M.Pd, advised students to understand the recent society conditions, which is declining in morals. He hopes students are aware of this, and commit to be part of the agents of change to improve the image of Muslims.
"Students must be the last bastion of manners, the Prophet Muhammad SAW was upset when muslims were oppressed, you are as students should uphold manners. Don't go along with the flow, get up to protect the honor of Muslims," he accented.
It was followed by in-depth orientations as the first session was delivered by the Chief of Management of Information & Technology, Ustaz Imam Baehaqi, M.M., with the theme Digital Ethic and IT Security System Orientation. He explained the ethics of interacting in the digital world and the importance of responsibility. It is a firm reminder towards its dangers, which is able to damage the future of young generation, if not anticipated with proper understanding and strong character.
After break and lunch, they returned to follow the second discussion from the school counselors about negative impacts of bullying, immorality, addiction to games-gadgets-pornography, as well as orientation of English and Arabic, sports and independence programs. These are efforts of Thursina IIBS in educating excellent generation with moral virtues, spirituality, and maturity to use technology (Hel).
