Initiating Application for Cancer Survivors, Thursina IIBS Students Win the 3rd Place in EXFEST 2025

The students of Thursina International Islamic Boarding School (IIBS) have persistently achieved in championship participated. A team of three, Bima Ramadhan Syabibi, Sadid Jundi Furqoni, and Raihan Naufal Fadhil secured the third place in Physics competition of Exfesh (Excellent Festival of SMA Unggulan Haf-Sa), annual event held by SMA Unggulan Haf-Sa Zainul Hasan BPPT Genggong, Probolinggo.


Ustadz Helmi Pakas Rivai, M.Pd., a Physics teacher and Head of Professional Department & CEO of Thursina IIBS, stated the team has created Smart Hero application project intended for cancer survivors. It includes a section for the  family, to obtain education on how to care for them, provide support and so on. Additionally,  it has a feature for doctor consultations as well as community forum to meet and support from those around them thus they do not feel lonely.


  

"Smart Hero is a concern from students towards cancer warriors who often experience loneliness, confusion, and limited access to information. The creators hope to offer solutions that holistically touch on emotional, educational, and medical aspects," explained Ustadz Helmi.


The team went through the selection process online by submitting papers. They successfully passed the final round and presented the idea in SMA Unggulan Haf-Sa directly. As a mentor, Ustadz Helmi always helped recheck the progress and result of the project, especially related with the rules, preparation for presentations and question and answer session.


 

One of the biggest challenges for the three students was competing with many  great participants. They had to face the best judges, professors from the University of Indonesia and Malang State University (UM). "All praise be to Allah, in addition to cash, certificates, and trophies, they received a free pass to UM," he added. Smart Hero is currently in a limited trial phase, and the team looks for  the application is able to be launched widely soon with support from various parties, including medical personnel, psychologists, and cancer fighter support communities.


Ustadz Helmi expects the experience and award would inspire other students in Thursina. "We would like to prepare better, especially for their juniors, to achieve  more," he said. (sls/lil)
