Environmental Education Through Games, Thursina IIBS Students Attain Gold Medal in STEM Competition 2024

Notable success was achieved by female student team of Middle school of Thursina International Islamic Boarding School (IIBS) in STEM Competition, held in Aston Hotel, Bali, on 28 to 31 of August 2024. They are six students of 9th grade : Putri Irza Lathifa, Vania Shaista Suprapto, Zahirah Aliyah, Khadija Purnama, Carissa Letizia Putri, and Naira Okura. Gold Medal and Special Award were brought home for their innovative project.


Putri, as a Team Leader, shared her excitement following the competition. "We are delightful to participate in this international competition. We did not expect to meet brilliant teams from all over the world. There were 200 teams who successfully passed preliminary round. We are fortunate to have the Gold Medal and Special Award. It is valuable experience and we will never forget it," she said proudly.



Carissa, furthermore, as a team member, explained more about the project, the key of their victory. "Our project is entitled Eco Avenger: An Educational Board Game on Climate Change and Sustainability. Players take the role of environmental heroes, working together to save the earth from the ecological crisis. We tackle challenges such as pollution and climate change using Action Cards , Global Eco Emergency Card, and Planetary Crisis Token," she added.


"The goal of this game is to restore the planet to be more sustainable through cooperation and strategy in achieving the Eco Recovery pathway," Carissa described.


In addition, Putri stated that the support from Thursina IIBS meant a lot to them. “Our school has provided full support, including registration, facilities, and guidance in completing our projects. Ustadzah Risa, as the supervisor, assisted in developing ideas and concluding projects. Also, We would like to thank the deepest gratitude to our parents who furnish assistance and best prayers for us," she concluded.


Ustadzah Risa Nur Fitriyana, S.Psi, as School Counselor and competition companion, expressed her pride. "I am content at the dedication and hard work shown by the students. They have fought with enthusiasm and effort, and the achievement is the result of persistence and solid support from all parties".


The accomplishment is not only a pride for Middle School of Thursina IIBS, but also inspiration for others to pursue innovation in the STEM field. The success of the team has proven that with creativity, cooperation and the proper support, outstanding performances in the international level are able to be gained. (rnw/lil)
