Thursina IIBS Signs MoU with UMM School of Medicine to Provide Diverse Higher Education Options

The 10th-grade students of Thursina International Islamic Boarding School (IIBS) in the Sciencepreneur specialization track recently had the rare opportunity to learn outside the classroom. They visited the laboratory at the Muhammadiyah University of Malang (UMM) School of Medicine, where they explored the world of medicine and participated in several experiments.

One of the highlights of the visit was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that commemorated the partnership between Thursina IIBS and the UMM School of Medicine on February 12. The signing was attended by Dr. dr. Meddy Setiawan, Sp. PD. FINASIM, the Dean of the UMM School of Medicine. This MoU reflects both institutions' commitment to implementing the University Tri Dharma and allows Thursina IIBS students to utilize the laboratory at the UMM School of Medicine.

During their visit, the students of Thursina IIBS got to do much more than observe; they engaged in a variety of scientific experiments in the field of medicine.

The principal of Thursina IIBS, Ustadz Rois Haqiqi, M. Pd., noted that on this occasion, the students were introduced to fundamental concepts of organ pathology as well as basic first aid. “They had the opportunity to learn directly by observing microscopic organ pathology in cancerous kidney, cervix, and breast cadavers,” he explained.

The students also learned about Body Mass Index (BMI) measurements, body physiological analysis, and directly try their hand at basic first aid using a medical-grade mannequin.

This activity is part of Thursina IIBS's effort to thoroughly guide and inform students interested in pursuing further education in the field of medicine. This aligns with Thursina IIBS’s vision to shape a generation that doesn’t only excel academically but also demonstrates great compassion for their community.

“Hopefully, this activity will not only provide valuable experience for the students but also motivate them to dream big and reach for the stars. Additionally, it gives them the chance to explore one of the options available for their higher education,” Ustadz Rois concluded.
