Thursina IIBS Students Triumphed at 2023 NEF, Bringing Home 2 Trophies
Thursina IIBS students made another outstanding achievement at the 2023 National English Festival (NEF). Ammara Kiramim Bararah Hidayat and Hibaturahman Althaf Widhyadhana both earned a remarkable achievement at the English Olympiad competition, with Hidayat securing the third place and Widyadhana taking the second runner-up title.
Organized by the students of the School of Education and Teacher Training at the Islamic University of Malang (UNISMA), the event took place on Monday, November 27. At least 580 students from all across the nation participated in this competition.
Ustadzah Umi Zakiyah, S.S., who accompanied the students in this competition, said that the competition consisted of two rounds. In the first round, the participants were given a written test focused on grammar and reading comprehension. Around 200 participants were then eliminated, while the remaining participants got to advance to the semi-final round.
A total of 20 participants were selected to compete in the final round, among them were twoThursina IIBS students who managed to get an outstanding score on the initial test.
Ustadzah Umi emphasized the importance of language not just as a communication tool, but also as a foundation of civilization. “This olympiad serves as a platform for students to develop their language skills, while earning a well-deserved recognition. Taking part in competitions is one of the most effective ways for students to refine their proficiency,” she explained.
Beyond the trophies and certificates, this victory is expected to inspire other students to pursue excellence and achievements in various fields. Ustadzah Umi believed, that a strong English proficiency is essential for the future of students. “A language is a tool as well as a valuable currency in fostering relationships within a community,” Ustadzah Umi wrapped up.
