Coming up with Green Hydrogen Ideas, Thursina IIBS Students Secure Silver Medal in IACHO 2024

Thursina International Islamic Boarding School (IIBS) has once again achieved in the international level. Held in Bandung, West Java, on 26 - 29 of September 2024, four students participated in International Applied Chemistry Olympiad (IACHO) and passed the grand final round. IACHO is an international competition intended to advance skills in science, especially chemistry, examining ability and critical thinking through challenging biology and chemistry tests.

Ustadz Robby Amrullah Q. M, M. Pd Thursina IIBS, told, four students qualified for the Grand Final were Fleya Fabhian, Mayra Rachmadiani, Kayla Azzahra Putri, and Quenisa Nirbita. They had passed a long struggle, from the preliminary to semifinal rounds, preceeding the last stage  in Bandung. "Fleya, Mayra, Kayla, and Quenisa have tried hard since the initial round, showing their excellent abilities to complete various science tests" he conveyed.

In the Grand Final round, there were 80 finalists from several countries such as Australia, the United States and Thailand. The science championship required critical thinking and strong research skill to compete for gold, silver and bronze medals. Each member has to deal with challenges resolved by scientific research.

One of the Thursina's team, Fleya Fabhian, gained a Silver Medal for her presentation on environmental remediation techniques. They solved environmental damage effectively, a scientific solution appreciated by the judges. "The environmental remediation technique is one of the main solutions to overcome the pollution, and this is highly relevant to current global problems," explained Ustadz Robbi.

Meanwhile, another team, Mayra Rachmadiani, Kayla Azzahra Putri, and Quenisa Nirbita presented the idea of using green hydrogen as environmentally friendly energy. Green hydrogen, produced through electrolysis of water using renewable energy, is one of the major solutions to reduce carbon emissions. The innovation thriumped a Bronze Medal. "They show green hydrogen is one of the most environmentally friendly forms of hydrogen compared to other types of hydrogen, and has great potential for use in everyday life," said Ustadz Robbi.

The success of Thursina IIBS students in the IACHO 2024 event has made the school proud and confirmed commitment of Thursina IIBS to preparing a generation of young scientists who are critical, innovative, and ready to contribute to solving international problems. (rnw/lil)
