Thursina IIBS Hosts 2023 Guidance and Counseling Teachers Conference

Thursina International Islamic Boarding School (IIBS) hosted the Guidance and Counseling Teachers Conference (MGBK) on Saturday, August 16. As a gracious host and facilitator, Thursina IIBS was committed to provide  the best service for all guests attending the conference.

The MGBK aimed to enhance the knowledge and skills necessary for providing effective guidance and counseling services. The conference focused on improving the competence of attending guidance counselors. According to Ustadz Muhammad Mahrus Afif, S.Psi, the counselor coordinator of Thursina IIBS, the event also provided an opportunity for guidance counselors from high schools across Malang regency to foster their relationships with one another.

"In this organization, we also help each other a lot regarding the development of students' knowledge on guidance counseling," he added.

On this occasion, members of the organizations also discussed their Articles of Association and Bylaws. Taking into account the recent shift of the curriculum into Emancipated Learning (Kurikulum Merdeka), which empowers students to take control of their learning and allows teachers the freedom to focus on their projects, the conference highlighted the important role of guidance counselors in the implementation of the curriculum.

"This means that guidance counselors must be creative; we are no longer solely focusing on administrative tasks. Instead, we also need to focus on student development, helping students understand themselves as well as their social and learning environment,” noted Ustadz Muhammad Mahrus.

The MGBK conference also served as a platform to develop learning methods and models. “The quality of graduates is determined by the quality of the learning process. Teachers must be professional and proportional to provide educational services according to student needs,” stressed Ustadz Muhammad Mahrus. “Moving forward, we will hold other conferences alternately and enhance our partnerships.”
