OJK-BEI Goes to Thursina IIBS, Introduces Financial Literacy to Students

The Road to School program, spearheaded by the Financial Services Authority (OJK), the Indonesia Stock Exchange (BEI), and Korea Investment & Securities Indonesia (KISI), visited Thursina International Islamic Boarding School (IIBS) on Thursday, September 7. The program, themed Learning Together with the Sharia Capital Market (Jariyah), was aimed at providing investment and financial planning literacy for students.

Opening the seminar, Ashar Faliqi emphasized the importance of financial planning for the young generation. He cautioned the students to always take every expense into careful consideration based on needs versus wants analysis. According to him, the only factors that can constrain the unlimited nature of wants are literacy and knowledge. "Maturity in managing finances will protect us from unnecessary spending," he stressed.

In addition, he also warned the students about the online loans (pinjol) schemes that are currently running rampant. He highlighted how. He pointed out that not all pinjol services are authorized; in fact, many are illegal and problematic. One key indicator of a problematic pinjol service is the lack of authorization permits from OJK. "If they have OJK permits, all procedures are regulated, starting from the contract, marketing methods, determining interest rates, to collection procedures, all must be ethical," he added.

In this seminar, students also received a lecture on investment from Beni Aswad. According to him, investing is not solely about making a profit; it also involves risk, which always goes hand-in-hand. Consequently, managing risk is essential for all prospective investors.

Furthermore, there are two analyses that must be conducted by a prospective investor; fundamental and technical. Fundamental analysis focuses on evaluating a company's performance by examining its fundamental economic factors, including financial and business metrics. Meanwhile technical analysis aims to forecast stock price trends by analyzing past market data, particularly price and volume movements.

“Then, there are two investment requisites that you must pay attention to; legal and logical. A legal investment means that it can be accounted for by permit. Meanwhile, a logical investment must consider the benefits and time length,” explained Beni.

Bein went on to prompt students to continuously learn new things, underlining the fact that the world of investment demands complex and adaptive knowledge. “To invest and run a company, you need to learn many things. While you are still young, seize every opportunity to learn, build relationships, and gain experience from experts in their fields,” he concluded. The seminar was also attended by teachers and academic staff of Thursina IIBS.
