Embodying Vision, Thursina IIBS Intensifies Programs to Encourage Arabic Language Proficiency
Thursina International Islamic Boarding School (IIBS) has constantly committed to foster the skills of its students, including mastery of Arabic language. Ustadzah Nabila Thyra Janitra, S.Sos., as the VP of Arabic Language Development in female campus, emphasized the significance of strengthening Arabic as part of Thursina IIBS's vision, a leading and world-class Islamic boarding school. She revealed, one of the ways to implement is to equip students with foreign language skills, especially Arabic.
"We need to excel arabic language skill not only for academic purposes, but also for memorising and understand Al Qur'an easier, thus the students are able to apply the values of Quran on their daily," she added.
Arabic language reinforcement program is designed to familiarise students with speaking arabic in their everyday activities. The material taught focuses on practical vocabularies. "We learn daily vocabularies, related to the surrounding environment, in the room, classroom, kitchen, city, and even in the supermarket," she said. They have been prepared to ensure students understand and use Arabic in various day to day situations.
The atmosphere of Thursina IIBS female campus is oriented to support the use of Arabic language. Speaking arabic in the dormitory is compulsory as well as in daily activities. It is equipped with some fun enjoyable programs. “We create a relaxed and magnificent learning atmosphere in numerous projects. "One of them is weekly agenda such as vocabulary provision (ilqo' mufrodat) and Arabic Language Day (ALD), held every Wednesday night," said Ustadzah Nabila.
In the first agenda, students are invited to learn vocabulary through various interesting methods such as singing, playing games, and direct practice. Each group of students is supervised by their respective murabbiyah to ensure their learning progress. Meanwhile, ALD activities are complemented with educational entertainment, such as watching Arabic videos, listening to Arabic songs, making posters in Arabic, and playing games designed to enrich vocabulary and understanding of Arabic.
Besides weekly activities, the dormitory areas actively encourage the advancement of language skills. The murabbiyah speaks Arabic and appreciates those with the progress and sanctions those who break the rules. Every morning, arabic conversation is heard by recordings or live conversations.
Not only are the students being trained, the murabbiyah also receive regular training to improve their Arabic language skills. Ustadzah Nabila said, "We hold training once a month, focusing on daily conversations and evaluating vocabulary teaching methods." By the way, murabbiyah are able to innovate in learning materials according to the needs of students. Hopefully, the students will be able to master Arabic vigorously and feasibly. (rnw/lil)
