Thursina International Islamic Boarding School (IIBS) Launches Prestigious Thursina Young Leaders Scholarship
Thursina International Islamic Boarding School (IIBS) has once again launched its prestigious scholarship program, the Thursina Young Leaders Scholarship, aimed at recruiting talented prospective students from across Indonesia. The opening ceremony of this program was held solemnly, beginning with the recitation of the Holy Qur’an by Ananda Mahesa Muqtada, followed by a speech from Ustadz H. Imam Awaluddin, Ph.D., the Chief of Waqf, Endowment, and Partnership.
Currently, about 50 candidates are competing for this valuable opportunity. Since its establishment in 2014, Thursina has been committed to providing educational opportunities to students throughout Indonesia, with 10% of its total students being scholarship recipients. With a total of 1,285 students enrolled at Thursina, approximately 128 students benefit from scholarships.
The number of applicants increases every year, especially from East Java. This year, Thursina has enhanced its support for scholarship recipients by creating a dedicated department to assist their personal development. Beyond offering education at the boarding school level, the Thursina Young Leaders Scholarship also focuses on students aspiring to pursue higher education.
Ustadz Imam Awaluddin explained that the purpose of this scholarship is to nurture young leaders who not only excel academically but also understand their social responsibilities. “Students are expected to set goals and inspire others through their acts of kindness,” he said.
Thursina is committed to regularly evaluating the progress of its students, including their academic achievements, daily behavior, and participation in dormitory activities. Additionally, students are encouraged to engage in various internal and external competitions that align with their talents.
Ustadz Awal described the curriculum applied at Thursina, which includes national, Cambridge, and Al-Azhar curricula, along with foreign language studies, Quran memorization (Tahfizh), and specializations for high school-level students. Moreover, the Life Curriculum emphasizes the importance of empathy and positive interaction among students and their environment.
In his closing remarks, Ustadz Awal encouraged prospective students and their parents who were about to undergo the selection tests. “May each participant achieve results that align with their aspirations and become part of the Thursina family,” he concluded.
After the welcoming speeches, Ustadz Abdul Jalil Mursyid, S.Ikom., Staff of the Relations and Enrollment Office (REO) of Thursina IIBS, explained the technical details of the tests being conducted. Out of 105 applicants, 50 candidates passed the administrative selection and are undergoing a series of tests today, including psychological tests, academic potential assessments, interviews, Quran recitation tests, and health checks. Meanwhile, the parents of the prospective students are participating in interviews as part of the selection process.
“The announcement of today’s test results will be made within a maximum of 14 days, followed by field surveys to the residences of successful candidates. The final announcement for the Thursina Young Leaders Scholarship program will be made in early December 2025,” explained Ustadz Jalil.
The Thursina Young Leaders Scholarship reflects Thursina IIBS’s commitment to shaping a generation of high-quality young leaders who are expected to contribute meaningfully and positively to society in the future. (rnw/lil)
