Thursina IIBS Malang has once again recorded a proud achievement. Ananda Nilna Muna Al Ghofir, student of class 12, has been elected as one of the representatives from Dapil V of East Java in the Youth Parliament, 2024. Held by DPR RI, the event provides an opportunity for high school students throughout Indonesia to participate for a week long in the legislative process.
Ustadzah Rafa as the Head of Thursina IIBS Specialization Program, said Youth Parliament is an annual program, aiming to furnish students with political understanding and practical experience of being members of DPR RI. It was only attended by 11 students from East Java province and as many as 137 students as a whole from all over Indonesia, making it very competitive. "Each participant has to send a CV, essay and video which will be the basis for the assessment," she added.
High School of Thursina IIBS Malang, included in Electoral District V of East Java, consisted of Malang city, Malang district and Batu City, played a significant role by sending its sole representative, Ananda Nilna Muna Al Ghofir. She won a tough selection, competing with 12,883 participants from 7,670 schools in 514 districts and cities. The juries selected her for outstanding essay entitled "Smart Generation, Limitless Literacy", emphasising on the paramount of literacy in creating Golden Generation in 2045.
Her essay highlights the main reason of strengthening literacy as a major character for Indonesian society to achieve national development targets by 2045. "The literacy-based education needs to be a government priority to build smarter and more skilled society," explained Ustadzah Rafa, exploring the aim of her student.
In preparation to Jakarta this September, Thursina IIBS has fully supported her preparations. Such as, guidance in writing essays, brainstorming ideas, and making videos, as well as connection with alumni who participated in the last Youth Parliament. Ustadzah Rafa hopes that the experience will inspire other schools and students of Thursina IIBS.
"We suppose Nilna would show that boarding school student has broad national awareness and cares about nationwide challenges. Involvement on the issue is expected to be valuable in dealing with different opinion and contribute positively to society," she added.
Of course, the Youth Parliament 2024 would be golden opportunity for Ananda Nilna to gain insight and skills in understanding and responding to local issues critically and wisely. (rnw/lil)
