Malang, 29 of October 2024 – Thursina International Islamic Boarding School (IIBS) officially opened Thursina Smart Library, a modern library with shopisticated facilities designed to be a literacy and innovation center for students. The inauguration was attended by Ustadzah Rona Irlando Krisna, S.IP., as the Manager of Library, and Ustadz Imam Baihaqi, M.M., as the Chief of Smart Campus, and by the entire academic community and male students who welcomed with great enthusiasm.

In her speech, Ustadzah Rona conveyed the library was designed as a comfortable and inspiring place to foster students' interest for learning and reading. "We are committed to accomodate learning facilities for students by providing learning support collections. Furthermore, the Smart Library has significant role in developing lifelong learning skills through library literacy programs," she added.

It offers a complete reading collection, as well as  introduces the latest technology to enrich the reading and learning experience by integrating virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) technology. "The library furnishes an interactive and in-depth learning experience, such as history, science, and creativity exploration," said Ustadzah Rona. Hopefully, it will inspire students and make learning more interesting and relevant in today's digital era.

Ustadz Imam Baihaqi, M.M., in his presentation, explained libraries currently have a crucial role in increasing literacy level of students and supporting quality education. “Indonesia's literacy rate is inadequate. Based on PISA data, Indonesia is ranked 69 out of 81 countries. "Therefore, the Thursina Library is presented not only as a conventional library, but a technology-based library with new approach as well," stressed Ustadz Imam.

He added the Thursina Smart Library comes with technological innovations such as AR (Augmented Reality), enriching the library collection. "Last year, we utilized technology with Focused Reading, this year we are expanding the contents  with AR. Maybe, in the next year, we would introduce hologram technology for virtual learning," he said optimistically.

By the inauguration, Thursina IIBS is determined to establish the library as a center for learning and exploration, where students hone their critical thinking skills, creativity and eager for literacy. “The body needs food, as same as the brain requires food. If we would like to progress like other developed countries, then we have to increase our literacy," added Ustadz Imam.

Thursina Smart Library, furthermore, will present various literacy programs, such as book discussions, literature reviews, and technology training to introduce students to sources of knowledge. Besides, with some modern features, the library is expected to become a useful exploration space, for students, teachers and academic staffs.

With Thursina Smart Library, Thursina IIBS is promising to build excellent generation in knowledge, faith and broad insight. (rnw)
